The Wood-Mizer MS500 table saw features an efficient cutting unit shielded in a cast iron body, a scoring blade, and a sliding table built on guide rollers. Inside the MS500 is a circular blade with a maximum 400 mm diameter running at either 3500 or 4500 rpm, which can be adjusted manually by switching the drive belt between the pulleys at the spindle.

The main blade, driven with a 6 kW motor, and the scoring blade, with a 0,75 kW motor, are set up in a cast iron cutting unit which can move up for height adjustment or tilt to change the cutting angle (0-45 deg). The cast iron worktable rests on four bolts that allow for precise leveling.

Material is secured on the heavy duty, welded steel frame by 4 adjustable clamps. To adjust the cutting depth, a hand crank located on the top of the cutter head is adjusted from 0,40 mm to 3,17 mm in 0,40 mm increments. The cutter head is engaged and operated by a powered control console that can be used from any side of the machine or detached from the stand for handheld use.

Powered controls include on/off, variable feed speed, and a joystick direction control for the X and Y axis for finishing material with or against the grain. The cutter head can also be operated manually with a handle. Once both sides of the slab are surfaced, fine finishing is accomplished by using the 177 mm orbital sanding head attachment for the desired finish. You start by using the top table for jointing (planing) – making two adjoining sides perfectly flat and at a precise right angle to each other. Then you can use the bottom table for planing (thicknessing) the last two sides at the same time, thicknessing the board to its final dimensions, and cutting down on an additional step. Moulding knives can be inserted into the side cutter, so you can also mould profiles as well. The horizontal cutter can also be fitted with profile knives with a maximum profile of 2 mm.

The MP160 efficiently shares one horizontal cutter between two cast iron tables – the upper table for planing and the lower table for thicknessing. No alterations are needed to switch between planing and thicknessing – switch between the two functions easily without stopping the cutter or extractor. You start by using the top table for planing – making two adjoining sides perfectly flat and at a precise right angle to each other. You manually advance the board over the cutter by hand. Then you use the bottom table for thicknessing the last two sides to be parallel to the first two, thicknessing the board to its final dimensions.

A safety guard keeps your hands safe during planing. The board fence tilts up to 45 degrees for planing angled boards. The MP150 uses the same log bed as the LT15 sawmill, and they can be used together or separately. The MP150 head can be added to an existing LT15 sawmill and logs can be processed into a finished product without ever leaving the sawmill bed. After the log has been squared with the LT15 sawmill, the MP150 can then mould or plane it into the final product.
